March 18, Elementary School 小学

Eastern vs Western

We are the 3rd grade Chinese Immersion Classes. There are 38 students in two classes. Each day, we spend a half day in the English room and a half day in the Chinese room. Our goal is to learn both languages simultaneously. In America, most of kids don’t study a second language until they are in 6th grade. Here are some things we are curious about in Chinese schools.

How many posters are in your classroom?
What do you eat for lunch? What do you do in the class?
How many students are in your class?
How many characters do you learn each day?
Since we are American and learn Chinese, do you learn English?
What does your playground look like?
What special class do you have?
How many Chinese characters do you know?
Do you go on field trips?
Who is your teacher to teach EI (we make it up because we are Chinese Immersion, so you are English Immersion)?
How many tests do you take each week?
What does your desk look like?
Do you read any English books?
Do you have electric device?
Have any English spoken people come to your class?
What do you learn about?
What type math do you learn?
Are you good at math?
Do you have English name?
How much time do you spend at school?
Do you have a smart board?
Do you have extended class like Mr. Metcalf?
What is your favorite game at recess?
Do you have holiday parties?
Have you traveled to USA?
What do you do for your down time?
Do you have nap time?
Do you have one classroom or more than one room?

  1. Normally, there are about 50 students if it is in a Chinese public school. But it may go down to a better size of 40, even 30 in some private schools

  2. New Year's Day (January 1), International Women's Day (March 8) ,Tree-Planting Day (Arbor Day) (April 1), Qing Ming (Pure & Bright in Chinese),International Labor Day (May 1) Duan Wu (Dragon Boat) Festival,Youth Day (May 4) and Children's Day (June 1) are only some of the holidays I found Chinese people celebrate oh, here's the explanation of children's day:It is the most memorable day of Chinese children. Access to almost all entertainment and educational facilities such as cinemas, parks and children's museums is free to them. Elementary schools throw celebration parties while parents shower them with presents. Alicia 谢谢
