A trip to China always brings excitement to our house. Not only
because I was born there, but also because the country has been changing
yearly, monthly, weekly and daily in some aspects.
Beijing is a city mixed with the old and new. It has over
22,000 years of history. Every corner you turn; you see new things. It is a
political center. When you ride in a taxi, the driver will give you his opinion
on most international issues. It is the center of the education system, where
you can find the best schools in the country.
Three years ago, after Ricky and Liliya went to China for the
first time; I wondered if we would visit the local public schools on their next
trip. After we purchased our tickets to China in January, I contacted my old elementary,
middle and high schools; we were excited to learn that our visits were possible.
A friend from Beijing also let me come to her classroom in the Beijing University.
What an opportunity to see the whole K-16 system on the trip.
